1.6 million employees worldwide, Wal-Mart continues to defy the law
of large numbers with double digit sales and profit growth. Wal-Mart
operates more than 3,500 stores in the U.S. alone, each of which employs
as many as 500 associates and handles a constantly rotating inventory
of 100,000-plus items, delivered by a fleet of 6,300 trucks that log
over a billion miles a year making daily trips to and from the 110
distribution centers. The international operations in Mexico, Canada,
South America, China, Korea and Europe only add to the complexity.
Tom Emerick, Wal-Mart's, Vice President, Benefits Design and Continuous
Improvement, will discuss the company's 2006 Benefits Strategy and
a new prototype of health plan called the "hybrid" healthcare plan.
